In this little chit chat with one of the cresthub team correspondent, P.N Okpechi talks about how he started as a self taught artist and an entrepreneur.
Sir, can you tell us when you started your artistic work?
I started drawing around 2001,came into a partial limelight in 2008, but the most amazing thing about it, is that My art works is a self taught, no one taught me how to do it, I developed it myself.
Why the word ‘partial limelight’ sir?
Well, you know the state of media in our country; they only focus on Entertainment and pageantry, forgetting the need to promote upcoming business and young entrepreneurs that will contribute immensely to the development our economy. I used the word ‘partial’ because not everyone in Nigeria knows about what I do because of the lack of media attention.
Speaking of being an Entrepreneur, can you tell us why you went into entrepreneurship when you can easily join one of the top Art firm in the country?
Hahaha, you know being an entrepreneur doesn’t stop me from working in other places, but I became entrepreneur because of the negative experience I had when I was still teaching in a High school, it’s a type experience I do not like to remember in life, but you know, the good thing about it is that the experience brought out the best in me. Again I went into entrepreneurship because I want to be financially independent; I can’t be financially independent when I work under someone without establishing my own.
Can you share with us the secret behind your inspiration?
Love Inspires me. It would surprise you to know that the image behind the Love is not a woman, but Nature. I love the wonderful and beautiful work of nature, the sliding landscape, the breeze blowing green pastures and the rest.
Some Individual claims that your works looks like a drawing done with computer graphic software, how true is that?
I have heard that a couple of time, I laugh hard each time someone tells me that because I know that my drawings are originally made from my God given talent and raw art material.
We have seen some of your drawing, but we are yet to know most of your notable clients?
Oh yeah! You are right, I barely make them known, but since you want know them, I have no other option than to give out there names. I have delivered some notable services to the likes of
Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, (Ceo and founder Innoson Vehicle motors (IVM), the first locally based individual Car Manufacturer in Nigeria and West Africa). I have also provided some notable work for the likes of Professor Boniface Egboka (Former Vice Chancelor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University) and other people like the current United Bank for Africa’s Bank Manager in Nnewi.
Final word for upcoming Entrepreneurs out there?
I have only got few words for them, which is “if you have a strong spirit to win, you strive for things that are great in a unique manner.
