The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has taken upon itself a shift in the registration of voters prior to the 2023 general elections.
Recalling that in 2018, during the last voter’s registration exercise, many complained about its process, delay in issuing the Permanent Voter’s Card(PVC) and the general over conduct of the INEC personnel.
The reasons for the new change are to expand voter access to polling units, new online registration portal and also, INEC voter enrollment device.
As announced that the Continuous Voters Registration(CVR) would commence on the 28th of June, 2021, one of the tools of registration this season would be done virtually as registrants would be more active than the past years.
The exercise which has been put into ten easy to-do steps are as follows:
Step 1
Prospective registrants are to go online to perform a preregistration using the URL https://cvr.inec.gov.ng or https://cvr.inecnigeria.org
Step 2
Registrants shall first create an account on the portal using a valid email address to enable him/her commence the preregistration process.
Step 3
Upon creating the account, an account activation link will be sent to the email address provided during account registration.
Step 4
Click on the provided link to activate and continue with preregistration.
Step 5
Each registration shall fill an online form with the relevant and necessary information.
Step 6
After filling the form, the registrant shall select a convenient date and time when he/she would want to visit the registration centre for biometric capture to complete his/her registration.
Step 7
The registrant shall click on the submit button to complete his/her preregistration, and after a successful application, an application slip containing his/her application ID, a QR code and relevant details will be generated.
Step 8
Print your application slip which contains an application number, QR code and details.
Step 9
Visit an INEC registration centre on the scheduled date of appointment with the printed application slip for biometric capture.
Step 10
A registration slip will be issued to you after the successful completion of your registration to be used for the Permanent Voters’ Card(PVC).
The eligibility of persons to be involved in the above mentioned steps are persons who has attained the age of suffrage, persons with issues in regards to change of name, birth, also persons who wish to transfer from a past location to a closer polling unit as a result of geographical mobility and those who has lost their PVCs and wish to get a new one.
