In line with the commitment of the Federal Government to instill lifelong skills to the Nigerian youths, about 2,000 young people across the country on Friday, September 3, 2021 completed a 7 weeks digital skills training in Lagos.
The program was tagged “Economic Sustainability Plan for Youth” and the training was facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development (FMYSD).
The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare stated that the program was an expression of the main focus of the president of Nigeria-Muhammadu Buhari on job creation and his resolve to lift 100million Nigerians out of the poverty space in 10 years.
According to reports the ministry said beneficiaries of the program ‘were selected through a competitive process across the 6 geo-political zones and went through training in digital exercises such as graphics and animation, internet of things, robotics, software development, coding and business process outsourcing’.
The FMYSD-ESP program is another strategy of the Ministry to deliver on Digital Skills Acquisition, Employability, Entrepreneurship and Leadership (DEEL) initiative.
The Minister added by saying that this initiative focuses on three major areas which are Digital Skills, Employability, Work Experience and the Green Stimulus framework which emphasizes entrepreneurship and Digital solutions in Agriculture and renewable energy.
Dare noted that sustainable economic engagement of the youths is one major means through which Nigeria can achieve national development goals.
He also stated “Officials of the ministry will monitor the progress of graduates from time to time to provide guidance and ensure compliance in line with the objective of the program.
“I therefore urge beneficiaries to take advantage of many opportunities available to young people by accessing the National Youth Investment Fund (NYI) to aid strengthen their businesses”.
Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Nebeolisa Anakin while awarding starter packs to the participants, stated that the Ministry will continue to ensure full implementation of the programs and projects of the Federal Government in line with the policy thrust of the present Administration.
