Welnes – an Egyptian fitness app has secured the sum of $300,000 in a seed funding round which would be used to expand its team and also, prepare for the GCC expansion come 2023.
The funding round was led by Flat6Labs. It also saw participation from Samurai Incubate, UI Investments and a group of angel investors.
Welnes which was founded in 2020 by Amr Saleh and Amr Diab, is a community centres application that helps its users reacher their desired weight loss and lifestyle goals by providing them with the perfect workout plan and nutrition needed for their goal. Its programming are structured to a group setting.
The app also features a robust gamificafion model that keeps users motivated and committed to their desired goals. The app also boasts of over 15,000 users; these users have also uploaded 500,000 meal images, gaining up to over five million likes in the duration of two years since its launch.
Speaking on the app and the funds raised, Amr Saleh, co-founder and CEO of Welnes said, “Our customers love the product, they come for the nutrition and workout plans and they stay for the community”. “We have a very strong technical team who built a great product and we can’t wait to spread it out across all segments of the market”, he added.
Dina el-Shenoufy, chief investment officer of Flat6Labs, said her company understood that the biggest qualifiers for assessing successful ventures were the team and market potential.
el-Shenoufy added that as a result of the team’s approach to growing a market of healthy living in the Middle East, Flat6Labs decided to invest in the startup.
“Having invested alongside Amr before, we are quite confident of his ability to execute on capturing the nascent but strongly growing market of healthy living in the Middle East. Amr and his stellar team are developing the perfect platform to aid clients in achieving just that,” she said.
