Binance – Blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency exchange company has partnered with 22-year-old Senegalese TikTok star, Khaby Lame to drive its global crypto and Web3 adoption to its audience.
Why Khaby Lame?
Khaby Lame worked as a CNC machine operator at a factory near Turin, Italy before getting laid off in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. He began posting videos on TikTok. His early videos showed him dancing and watching video games, and were mostly filmed in Italian and included Italian subtitles.
Lame rose to fame by reacting wordlessly to complicated and absurd “life hacks” videos using TikTok’s duet and stitch features. According to a tweet by twitter user, Adewale Adetona, he likened Khaby Lame to formost comedy series, Mr. Bean saying Lame is “The Gen Z Mr. Bean”.
Currently, he is the most followed person on TikTok with over 142 million followers dethroning longtime leading TikTok creator, Charli D’Amelio.
Speaking in this regard, Changpeng Zhao, Founder and CEO in a tweet said, “He’s the most followed creator on TikTok. And he’s good at explaining things in a simple way. Perfect for crypto adoption.”
Furthermore, James Rothwell, Binance Global Vice President of Marketing added that, “Khaby has become a cultural icon and one of the most entertaining creators globally. We love his charm and sense of humor, and think it will bring relevance and reliability as we scale Web3 adoption”.
What does the Partnership mean for Both Parties?
According to a report by Stilt, 94% of crypto buyers are Gen Z/Millennial, but Gen X is outspending them. This means that 94% of all cryptocurrency buyers are Gen Z or Millennials (18-40 years old); giving Binance the edge of driving its Web3 and crypto adoption campaign to an accessible audience. Understanding the above mentioned report, for both parties;
- Binance would use contents created by Lame to demystify crypto and debunk myths surrounding it and the entire Web3 space.
- The age bracket (of 18-40) stated in the above mentioned report relates to the audience range of Lame, thereby creating an enabling channel to pass information from Binance.
Responding to the partnership, Lame said he has been curious and, the partnership with Binance “aligns perfectly” with his plan of making complicated things easier and more fun.
“I consider my followers as my family, and I am always looking for new challenges and interesting content to share with them,” he said “I’ve been curious about Web3 for some time, and jumped at the chance to partner with a leader like Binance because it aligns perfectly with what I usually do: make complex stuff easy and fun for everyone!”
Lame becomes second partner after Portugal footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who also joined Binance, introducing his fans to the Web3 space through NFTs.
