Prior to his selection into Univelcity – a tech academy designed to accelerate the growth of technology talent in Africa, Bature Nyiri was a corp member attached to the Plateau state Information and Communication Agency (PICTDA).
Like every corp member assigned to his place of primary assignment, Nyiri desired to serve his fatherland with grit, worth and due diligence. In this vein, he became an intern with the agency, and also, with his knowledge of UI/UX (product design), he was found worthy of gaining a 3-month scholarship to the academy.
The 3-month scholarship is an intensive full immersive program that would provide coding classes on android app development, artificial intelligence, UI/UX, web development, scratch, robotics, drone gaming, 3D printing, augmented/virtual reality and 3D game development.
According to a press statement issued by the agency, Nyiri’s selection was “a result of his stellar performance in code plateau and as an intern with the agency he has shown a track record in the area of User Interface design and team work ability”.
Furthermore, the scholarship would avail him of the opportunity to meet and work with design teams and also collaborate with companies in the city of Lagos during the time of this special learning period.
Speaking with CRESTHUB, Bature Nyiri expressed his gratitude and satisfaction towards being selected, stating that his selection came from a performance evaluation by the evaluation team of PICTDA. “My selection was based on a performance evaluation by the evaluation team that saw my commitment and passion to work with excellence. So they decided to award me a scholarship to gain more experience in product design”, he said.
Narrating his experience with PICTDA in the last months of his service year, he tagged it as a “good yet rough” journey that required the sacrifices of time and efforts in order to make things work on track. Nyiri added that
“I’ve enjoyed working with the team so far. I’ve also enjoyed getting to network with people from different backgrounds and I’ve also enjoyed seeing people who had no experience at all get into tech and even land good jobs thereafter. So I would say so far it’s been really worth it being here.”
He went on to state that after his training at Univelcity, he would work on certain key projects in partnership with Code Plateau as the agency is geared towards empowering young people with tech skills and not just the skills but the opportunity to work on real-life tech projects to further solidify the learning process.
PICTDA is currently granting admissions for its Code Plateau 4.0 fellows. The 4.0 program is aligned with the sustainable development goals of 1, 4, 8 and 10. This means it’d provide its fellows with the necessary skills to combat poverty, give access to quality education, ensure the decency around work and economic growth and lastly, provide a workspace for reduced inequality around the tech ecosystem. Also, the program has new features in blockchain development and senior executive courses.
