Hi there, I’m back with my small talks on Big Brother Naija. Just in case you missed the last blog post on Big Brother Naija and social media, kindly read here
Now, to the thought and question around. Could Big Brother Naija be an exposition or launch pad for PSP companies? Could the grounds on which they’re planted be so fertile and productive that year in, a lot of companies are out to drag for the position for lead and associate partners? Could it be that their are certain benefits gained from the housemates and also, the audience for these companies? Could it be that as a result of the eyeballs and potential customers glued to their screens across Nigeria, Africa and even European countries such as the UK, these tech giants are throwing in their weights in seeing who’d be the headline sponsor of the show?
WHAT IS P2P?
Peer-to-peer (P2P) is a decentralized platform whereby two individuals interact directly with each other, without intermediation by a third party. Instead, the buyer and the seller transact directly with each other via the P2P service. This means that, there is no need for a retailer or middleman in the chain of transaction.
NOTE: From search, there are over 20 million subscribers on the Multichoice platform – a cable/streaming platform for the viewing of shows and also, the owners of the reality TV show, Big Brother Naija.
Prior to this year’s show where Abeg and Patricia are the headline and associate partners, KudaBank, Flutterwave and also Patricia were involved in the last season. As a result of their weight thrown behind the last season, Flutterwave announced that it had raised its Series B funding and processed more than 140 million transactions worth over the sum of $9 billion. Interesting isn’t it?
This year’s show – Shine Your Eye as it is been themed is been headlined by Abeg, a peer-to-peer (P2P) social payment platform that allows you send or request money from another Abeg user without having to input any bank details. All you need is their Abeg tag to send them money and request funds from them.
The show in its progressive state has seen housemates also, benefiting keenly from the games and winning handsome rewards and through their participation, and as a result of this, the social media platform (Instagram) has seen a growth from formally 20,000 followers to a rising number of 78.4k followers and still counting. The Google play store has seen the number of downloads 500,000+ since the inception of the show. The big question is, could BBNAIJA be the landing page for all these companies in years to come?
According to statistics derived from the last season, there were over 750,000 impressions gotten from the Big Brother Naija show and with this, a tech company can leverage on the presence of these people to increase sales, boost networking and expand its reach.
Speaking with CRESTHUB, pro digital marketer and CEO, Benny Capricorn, Amama Benedict, he stated that the Big Brother Naija platform has been a huge benefit in terms of campaigns, funding and recognition as millions of Nigerians are fan of the reality TV show. He further revealed that many who are unaware of the services of these P2P Companies now know and utilise them, which at the long run would generate the necessary target profits (if not exceeding it) set by these companies.
