Sim Shagaya, the media and technology entrepreneur and the CEO of uLesson has announced the launch of Honey Badger Fund (HBF), a fund for backing extraordinary Africans.
He recently announced his latest venture on X “I am eager to use all I’ve learned to help extraordinary Africans build great businesses and navigate the tough yet most fulfilling transition to business leadership”
According to him, the Honey Badger Fund is for supporting extraordinary African entrepreneurs in building globally impactful technology based companies.
“We invest in companies that are changing Africa for the better. More than capital, we bring experience to our partnerships with entrepreneurs” it read .
Sim is a businessperson who is recognized as the founder of uLesson Education Limited, E-motion outdoor Advertising, Konga and DealDey.
He is popular for pioneering the e-commerce movement in Nigeria through his company, Konga which he founded in July 2012 raised about $80 million in 2020 when capital was scarce in the African tech ecosystem.
After Konga, Sim has focused on his edtech startup, uLesson which he has grown from focusing on primary education and secondary education to now tertiary education with Miva University. He also raised nearly $30 million at the Series B stage.
The 48 year old entrepreneur is part of a rare group of Nigeria founders with multiple venture-backed companies.
Other African entrepreneurs also have venture funds and many other African founders have privately invested in startups individually or through their private funds.
