Nigeria’s Digital Literacy has received a boost with the training of 178 young Nigerians in the just concluded two weeks STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Bootcamp for Kids Initiative.
The National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, during the period of the program trained young kids on robotics, drones, artificial intelligence, coding and others.
The Director General NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa disclosed this on Friday in Abuja during the closing ceremony and charged young Nigerians to emulate technological innovators such as Bill Gates and Elon Musk, who through their talents have carved a niche for themselves in technological innovations.
He also said the training has entrenched in its participant’s required technological knowhow in line with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy of the Federal Government.
Inuwa said “As we match towards the fourth industrial revolution, there is need for a new strategy and innovative approaches to STEM education, such as the introduction of Artificial intelligence (AI), Robotics, the Internet of Things, and other emerging technologies in our educational system”.
Abdullahi explained that the STEM Bootcamp for Kids (SB4Kids) was part of NITDA’s effort towards implementing the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS), particularly NDEPS’s pillar- Digital Literacy and Abilities.
“We’re all conscious that the Nigerian authority is dedicated to transforming the schooling system to enhance the standard of our diplomas to offer a safe future for all our citizens.
“The government’s vision places education at the heart of the development of the citizenry and future economic success”, he said.
He additionally stated that NITDA SB4Kids skilled almost 200 members, with 96 junior kids and 82 senior kids in intellectual and intensive exercises,
Yau Garba, Nationwide Director of Nationwide Middle for Synthetic Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), praised NITDA’s DG and encouraged the kids to continue with their digital learning and use what they had discovered in the course of the program.
At the event, the best participants received awards and appreciation from NITDA.
Some of the participants who spoke with the Voice of Nigeria were excited and full of thanks to the Agency for organizing the training. They also promised to put the knowledge they had acquired to good use and also teach others as well.
