While my writing skill has been able to get me to a point of proper self expression, one thing I have come to realize is that, I am always searching for a way to improve it. I have come to understand that in order to be at the top of my game as a writer, I need to constantly discover new ways of writing that will be appealing to my audience.
Ever wondered what differentiates top writers from other writers? Well, the answer to this question lies in their secret place of ‘’innovative writing”. I am not trying to exaggerate but I can’t seem to figure out a better answer to the above stated question.
If you are reading this write up, I am super sure that you are either a writer or someone who is interested in kick starting his or her writing skills. Whichever category you fall into, keep it up! You on the right track.
The good news is that improving your writing skill is quite easy, if only you can adhere to the simple step listed below:
READ LIKE YOUR PAY-DAY DEPENDS ON IT:
Reading through the interesting work of other writers helps you build a better perspective. When you read, observe the sentence structure, understand the use of diction and the transition that occurs from one paragraph to another.
OUTLINE KEY POINTS BEFORE YOU KICK OFF:
This method has been the back bone of my writing prowess. Nothing frustrates a writer than being hooked down in one paragraph, or not knowing how to transition into the next paragraph. Key point aids you in knowing what write next, thus eliminating your chances of going blank in the middle of a write up.
BE ACQUAINTED WITH SOME BASIC GRAMMATICAL KNOWLEDGE:
You don’t need to be an English Professor before you write an incredible content. However, some basic grammatical components that were taught in high school can come in handy. You should be able to know when to apply ‘Linking words’ like However, either, but, in case, in spite of (Check out bunch of them over here.) Books like ‘The Element of Style’ can help you do some grammatical brush ups.
LEARN TO IMITATE YOUR FAVORITE WRITERS:
Please do not get me wrong, there is a great difference between plagiarizing someone’s content and imitating their works. The former involves a verbatim copying while the latter involves studying the sentence structure and progression in order to be able to implement a better sentence structure in your writing.
TO ENGAGE YOUR AUDIENCE, CREATE A HOOK:
One good way to create a hook is by starting with a story, it could be a personal story.(People prefer to read your personal experience). There are a couple of other ways to create a hook while writing.
Let’s assume you are creating content on “How to be financially free”, you should make use of hook lines that goes like this.
“I am going to show you a secret how you can increase your earnings in order to escape the rat race”
Understand that in the above stated hook line, your reader would definitely want to go to the next line to discover the secret that will enable him or her escape the rat race.
That’s the power of hook line.
YOUR DRAFT IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A BUILDING BLOCK NOT THE REAL HOUSE.
I have been opportune to come in contact with some writers who get frustrated when their first paper writing goes wrong. This is not a right approach to improving your writing. In fact, some of the most celebrated writers in the world has a minimum of two to three draft works before the original work. This alone, depicts the amount of work that has been devoted to the creation of the content.
One good thing about writing is that, it gives you the room to make mistakes. If you’re lucky, your mistakes might end up becoming a creative piece. Be willing to have as much draft as possible that will enable you to produce a refined content. Master class!
WRITE REGULARLY:
Your level of improvement will be determined by the rate of your consistency. Writing for 2 hours every day can help you improve at a compounding rate. Personally, I still suggest that you have at least two core days in a week that is devoted to writing. During these days, allocate more time to your writing and see the magical improvement.
THE SECRET LIES IN THE SIMPLE:
Usage of simple diction creates more audience engagement. As a writer, you wouldn’t want your readers to consider your write up as boring. Use simple words that people can easily relate with. It worthy to note that the secret to a better content lies in the sentence structure and how easy it is to assimilate. Keep it simple.
SUMMARY
Just like Rome was never built in a day, you will never become a better writer in one day. However, with regular writing and learning, you will keep on getting better. Trust the process and never lose focus.
