Nigerians and telecom users who have not linked their lines to their NIN are at risk of losing their lines.
Recall in December 2023 the Nigerian Communications company (NCC) issued a directive to telecoms to block users in Nigeria who have not linked their National Identification Number(NIN) to their SIM cards on or before the deadline slated for February 28th, 2024.
CHRESTHUB has created a detailed do-it-yourself step by step process to complete the task and aid MTN users who are yet to link their lines.
Are you a user who is yet to carry this out? You can alternate the following steps to link your line.
USSD
This is the most popular and convenient way to link your MTN SIM to your NIN. To use the USSD code

- You will be asked to enter your NIN
- You then proceed to enter the MTN number
- You will receive a confirmation message once the process is complete.
To also check your NIN, you can dial *346# on your phone.
MTN Mobile App
- Download the app from Google play store or App Store
- Sign in with your MTN number and create a password
- After signing in, you will navigate to the ‘My Account’ section
- In the “My Account” section, you will see an option to link your NIN
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process
- You will receive a confirmation after the NIN is successfully linked.
MTN WEBSITE
- visit the MTN NIN linking website
- Follow the prompt on the screen
- Enter the MTN number
- Input the OTP code you’ll receive
- Enter your 11 digit NIN and submit
You can also visit an MTN customer care center and speak to representatives who can help in completing the process, but the above mentioned steps are to provide stress free and convenient ways of linking your NIN yourself.
